Poured rain all night. Still cold; in the 50’s. This morning we went to a Cheetah Rehab. Once we were told what killers Cheetah’s were, they took all 40 of us into their pen so we could pet them!! Juba and Moya were raised from kittens and “safe”. Once they calmed down (!), we each got a chance to pet them and get our pictures taken. Very cool, but a bit creepy. Couldn’t do this in the US of A.
Next was a Zulu “demonstration” village. We had a great time being introduced to their culture. Making spears, shields and jewelry, looking at a house, some dancing and a meal. This is not a modern Zulu village, although our guide had a mobile phone! Proud, they are, of their heritage though.
Afterwards we went on our first game drive in Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Zululand has the largest number of rhinoceros in the world, and did we see them; they were everywhere! We also came across a herd of elephants, some African buffalo, giraffes and a couple of deer like animals, good prey for the lions that weren’t evident today. Overall, a great game drive. You can see from the pictures below, we were very close to these incredible animals.
