Day 6 Zululand, Emdoneni Game Lodge

Up at 4am to get into the bus at 5:15.  Rained again all night.  We don’t need to be reminded that this is winter in South Africa.  A two hour flight to Johannesburg, and hour and a half layover, then another hour and a half flight to Durban.  Curious in that our guide, Jeremy, didn’t go with us, he had a direct flight to Durban.  Our tour company negotiates everything, and apparently the two flight option was cheaper for the 40 of us.  Also, in a throwback to the US in the90’s, every flight, no matter how short; a meal is served.  Breakfast on board our first flight and a sandwich on the second.  They were just starting to serve our sandwiches when we started to descent into Durban!

A three hour coach ride to the Game Lodge.  Part way we stopped to check out the warm Indian Ocean.  Gloria true to form packed her flip-flops for the dip.  Our guide was quite verbose in his warnings about getting too wet.  He said that every time he brings groups here, always a few are soaked to the waist.  We laughed first, he laughed last.  Rogue waves are the norm here.  Gloria got soaked.  She was not happy.  See below.  The back of her was even wetter, as she was running up the beach.  She got nailed.  I captured before, during and after the soaking.

We are at Emdoneni for two nights.  Tomorrow we visit their Cheetah Rehab.  Nice lodging, our room below.  As I upload, we are at dinner, after our meal the cooks and wait staff are entertaining us with Zulu songs.  Sorry, didn’t bring my camera!
